What does Avatar do?
Avatar is an educational and social organization established in 1983 for gay men with an interest in BDSM. We teach safe, sane and consensual BDSM techniques to anyone interested in learning.
How long has Avatar been around?
Avatar celebrated its 27th Anniversary in January, 2010
Is the club only for gay men?
Avatar is a gay male BDSM organization. However, the majority of our events are open to the public, and everyone is welcome regardless of sex, religion, race or sexual orientation. Only adults over 18 years of age are admitted to our meetings.
Do you have to be a member to go to the monthly meetings or programs?
While we do have closed membership meetings, our monthly educational program meetings are open to the public. See the Calendar for more info.
How do I become a member?
Membership is by invitation only. Prospective Members are nominated by current Members.
How do I know who is an Avatar Club Member?
At our public events, most Avatar members will be wearing the club's blue uniform shirt with a red braid and our club logo on the sleeve patch. They may also be in Avatar vests (with the patch on the back), or gray/black T-shirts with the Avatar logo.
Is Avatar a Non-Profit Organization?
Yes, Avatar Club Los Angeles is a tax exempt public benefit educational organization, Federal Tax I.D. # 95-4050395. Avatar Club is incorporated under the laws of the State of California.
Is Avatar's Financial Document available to the public?
